北京开放大学是教育部批准、北京市人民政府举办，以服务首都学习型 城市建设为宗旨、以现代信息技术为支撑，为市民终身学习提供多样化、 多层次、多类型教育服务的新型高等学校。承担北京市民终身学习平台、 北京市社区教育指导中心、北京市学分银行管理中心和北京老年开放大 学等多项公共服务职能。

Beijing Open University (BJOU), approved by the Ministry of Education and established by the People's Government of Beijing, is a new type of institution of higher learning with the purpose of serving the construction of learning city in the capital and supported by modern information technology, providing diversified, multi- level and multi-type educational services for the lifelong learning of citizens. It has undertaken many public service functions, such as Beijing lifelong Learning platform for citizens, Beijing Community Education Guidance Center, Beijing Credit Bank Management Center, and Beijing Open University for the Elderly.
