The square serves as the foundational symbol that runs through the entire visual system. Our underlying logic moves from the “visual origin” to the “printing gene.” As one of the three fundamental geometric shapes, the square evokes a range of symbolic forms—seals, movable type, Chinese characters in books, pixel matrices, and more.

After finalizing the primary visual symbols and reflecting on the event’s content and positioning, we developed the visual design around the theme “Spring Bloom, Autumn Harvest,” considering the exhibition flow and incorporating the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication’s exclusive “Qiushiyuan” IP. Drawing on the metaphor of natural seasons to reflect the journey of reading, the design conveys the joy found in earnest and diligent learning. The process from sprouting to harvest represents both the accumulation of time and the settling of the mind.

Green (spring) forms the skeleton of the lettering, giving it a soul, pink (summer) represents sensibility, art, and thought, yellow (autumn) conveys brightness, hope, and wisdom, blue (winter) symbolizes rationality, technology, and knowledge.

Through combination, arrangement, and variation, squares generate order and rhythm, acknowledging the history of printing while pointing toward future expression. The four colors are not treated independently; instead, through overprinting, transparent overlays, and the arrangement of color fields, they create a richly layered visual depth.

The First Beijing Symposium on Reading for All Development, along with the “Scholarly Youth, reading into the Future” Campus Reading Season and the 2026 Capital University Students’ Reading Series, will be held on April 18 at the Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication. The university’s “Print Light · Reading Enjoyment” experiential reading carnival will also be unveiled on the same day. Centered on the integration of culture and technology, the carnival carefully crafts a themed experiential route, “Spring Bloom, Autumn Harvest,” bringing together a reading market, achievement exhibitions, cultural and creative product sales, and interactive experiences. It offers faculty, students, alumni, and visitors from all walks of life a tangible, interactive, and immersive feast of reading culture.
